Final Year Visual Communicatios
Lens Based Media
The Brief: To explore and investigate the notion and importance of memories and communicate your thinking via an appropriate format using lens based media. the solution was open to a book, visual essay, a short piece of video etc. It had to be appropriate for what we wnted to say.
Outline: A life long issue with a bad memory and poor recollection has brought me to the stage of being surprised when moments of my past are relayed to me as if they are new information. Dates, events, movies, holidays, all a mixed collage of fragments of memories. It is often as if I am hearing some of my past for the first time. Unscrambling moments of my life can often leave me with an incomplete picture of fact. The notion of these events is strong and vibrant. I remember colours, I remember smells and sometimes even really obscure details but more often than not the full picture is missing or corrupt.
Outcome: This is a series of moments from my past. The digital memory of these events has been corrupted and manipulated to illustrate the patchwork quilt of the memory centre of my brain. The photos were edited and compiled through notepad and photoshop. The ‘memory’ of the photos have been altered to reflect my own perception of what has preceded in my life up to now.The photos were then printed and framed and hung in my house as any other framed memory would be and I have captured these images with photography. Perfect memories of imperfect memories.
This is a layout for a book based upon the glitched pages of my memories images.
